Hey there,
This week, we keep it simple. We look at a problem that’s a key topic of discussion among B2B marketers and social media managers - whether LinkedIn suppresses posts with outbound links.
According to Oktopost, LinkedIn de-prioritizes posts with outbound links, meaning these posts are less likely to appear in users’ feeds than posts without links.
Also, Hootsuite says that, on average, posts without links got 6x more reach than posts with links. While linkless posts had fewer shares on average, they received almost 4x more reactions and 18x more comments than the average post with a link.
So clearly, data says that LinkedIn does suppress posts with external links.
Now, the question is, how do you address this challenge?
The most common method is to add the link in the comments. However, keep in mind that LinkedIn also tends to limit your reach if you are the first person to comment on your post.
A workaround is to use a different account you own to comment first (preferably from a different device) and then add your comment that includes the link.
Whether we like it or not, we live in a world where algorithms of the digital platforms we use determine how big of a brand we can become. Given this, small enhancements like this can make a lot of difference to your reach in the long run.
That’s all for the week. Hope you liked the content.
