The Complete Cold Emailing Setup
Learn the end to end process of setting up a cold emailing engine
Hey there,
We all know that cold emailing is challenging, especially when you are getting started. With privacy rules and regulations becoming tougher and tougher, cold emailing has become a mountain to climb for many. The following questions arise with regard to this:
Which emailing tool should we use?
What is the best choice when it comes to the database?
How many emails can I safely send per day?
What are the other best practices to follow?
We attempt to answer these questions in today’s newsletter edition.
Firstly, there isn’t like a perfect set of tools to use. You have plenty of choices. Here, we will look at the steps you need to take to ensure deliverability, avoid getting flagged as spam, and manage all cold emailing activities without breaking the bank.
Here is the step-by-step process you need to follow when getting started with cold emailing today:
Buy at least 3 new domains different from your main domain. ‘.info’ domains tend to be the cheapest (it is not recommended to use your core domain for cold emailing since an undesired response from the recipients can damage the domain’s reputation). The cost for this can vary from a few dollars to several hundreds (or even thousands) depending on the domains you choose.
Make sure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are set up properly for the 3 domains.
Purchase 3 email IDs per domain, making it a total of 9 email IDs. You can purchase email IDs from any provider of your choice. You can get them for as low as $2 per email per month.
Subscribe to a B2B database for getting verified email data. Tools like Apollo, Lusha, and Smartlead are good choices. Their plans start at $32.5 per month. If needed, use a separate email verification service like Captain Verify (the cost for this will vary depending on the number of emails you want to verify. For instance, Captain Verify charges $60 for 10,000 emails). This is, however, not needed if you are using the verified emails feature offered by the database platform, unless you want to add an extra layer of validation.
Use a tool like Instantly or Lemwarm to warm up the 9 email IDs for 2 to 4 weeks.
Build a high-quality list using the right filters on the B2B database platform and make it as specific as possible. Use parameters like revenue, region, industry, job titles, intent, etc., to arrive at a qualified list.
Write an attractive email copy (subject line, email body, preview text). Add multiple emails to a single campaign for the best results (usually 4 to 5 emails per sequence). Make sure there is enough gap between consecutive emails (at least 2 business days).
Configure the email campaign on the sending tool (whether it’s Apollo, Instantly, Lemwarm, or any other tool you prefer) across the 9 email IDs and launch the campaign. Be sure to start with a small sending limit per day (say 10) and increase it only gradually by 1 or 2 emails every day.
That’s it. You have set up your cold emailing engine for success.
There are more details to making it big with cold emailing like optimizing the subject line, writing a killer email body, using the right CTAs (Call To Action), best practices when it comes to inserting links, etc. But the objective of this article was to educate you on doing the setup right so that you are moving in the right direction.
